Annual Report 2024/2025 – Key Points

The 2024/25 year was one of consolidation and renewed focus for the Te Awarua o Porirua Harbour and Catchments Community Trust. The Trust continued its core mission of advocating for the sustainable management of the harbour and its catchments, strengthening community understanding, and supporting environmental initiatives across the region

A major priority this year was improving the Trust’s digital presence, with work underway to redevelop the ageing website and explore broader social media engagement, supported by volunteer IT expertise from within the community

The signing of the Harbour Accord, led by Ngāti Toa Rangatira and partner councils, marked a significant milestone in progressing a more coordinated, strategic approach to harbour health. The Trust actively engaged in the Accord’s launch and ongoing planning efforts

Advocacy remained a central activity, with the Trust submitting on ten major government and council consultations, including environmental legislation, regional planning, and local water management processes

Throughout the year, the Trust hosted expert guest speakers, supported community environmental groups, and maintained its online platforms, reaching hundreds of community members monthly

Financially, the Trust remained stable, ending the year with a positive balance and minimal expenditure. The organisation also experienced trustee changes, farewelling long-serving members and welcoming new leadership, while continuing its work with strong volunteer support and valued community partnerships
