Gateway to in-depth info
Many organisations have online records about their involvement with the harbour and catchments. Here’s some we have identified:
Councils and Iwi on Te Tāiao
- Ngāti Toa Rangatira. The mana whenua and kaitiaki of our awa. Sustainability and resilience.
- Porirua City Council. Huge volume of material. Some of the info goes back a few years now.
- Greater Wellington Regional Council Te Taiao section.
- Wellington City Council and what it does for the environment
Significant reports
- Te Awarua o Porirua Accord Signed in February 2025 this document holds great promise that finally the powers that be will all work together to accelerate restoration of the awa.
- Whaitua Implementation Report 2019 Containing a complete list of recommendations for restoring the harbour. Ngāti Toa statement sits alongside the report and complements it.
- Dredging Controversy abounds but this 2017 report underpins the Trust’s belief that dredging is impractical and inappropriate for the harbour, except in the marina.
- Managing Our Estuaries This report from the Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment highlights our harbour among others in terms of the highly complicated governance arrangements that sometimes impede progress.
